zkSync Era Paymaster Surpasses 1.1 Million Transactions

zkSync Era, a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, has achieved a new milestone in its Paymaster feature, which allows users to pay gas fees with ERC-20 tokens instead of ETH. According to data from Dune Analytics, the number of zkSync Era Paymaster transactions has exceeded 1.1 million as of February 19, 2024, with SyncSwap Paymaster contributing 56.8% of the total.

Paymaster is a smart contract that can pay gas fees on behalf of users, enabling them to use any ERC-20 token supported by zkSync Era to interact with the network. The concept of Paymaster was originally proposed by Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin in his blog post on Account Abstraction (AA), a process of “smart contract-izing” wallet addresses, fee payment and authentication.

zkSync Era is one of the most popular layer-2 solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem, partly due to the anticipation of receiving an airdrop after a long period of participation in the network. The community has recently resorted to “spamming” the Github of layer-2 projects that have not issued tokens yet to solicit airdrops, creating a culture of e-beggars that was once mentioned by Starknet developer.

However, despite not making any move on the reward plan for supporters, zkSync Era still surpassed Ethereum in terms of transaction volume for the first time in December 2023, with 35.33 million transactions, even though it encountered a chain halt during the Christmas holiday.
