Zcash (ZEC) and five cryptocurrencies are now available to trade on Coinbase Pro in New York
In an announcement today, Coinbase Pro has officially added support to trade for Zcash ($ZEC), Civic ($CVC), Golem ($GNT), Loom Network ($LOOM), Decentraland ($MANA) in New York, USA. All assets are in full-trading mode. Limit, market and stop orders are all now available. Coinbase first launched USDC and Zcash trading in late 2018, but New York, UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and the European Union have not been a supported jurisdiction until now. The state’s stringent regulatory requirements were likely behind the delay.

Zcash is a cryptocurrency that uses recent advances in cryptography to allow users to protect the privacy of transactions at their discretion. The distinction between Zcash’s “transparent” and “shielded” transactions is analogous to the distinction between unencrypted HTTP and encrypted HTTPS. In both cases, the unencrypted/transparent version of the protocol allows third parties to see metadata associated with the communication or transaction, while the encrypted/shielded version protects this information.
