Yuga Labs acquires PROOF, bringing Moonbirds into Otherside

Yuga Labs, the web3 company behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, has announced its acquisition of PROOF, a leading digital art platform and creator of the Moonbirds NFT series.

The deal, which was announced on Wednesday, will see Yuga Labs take over PROOF’s assets, including its team, intellectual property, and artistic portfolio. PROOF is known for its PROOF Collective, a curated group of digital artists who produce original and exclusive NFTs, as well as its Moonbirds, Oddities, Mythics, and Grails exhibition series, which showcase the diversity and creativity of the NFT space.

Yuga Labs, which also owns and operates the web3 lifestyle and media brands Otherside, TwelveFold, and 10KTF, as well as the NFT collections Meebits and CryptoPunks, said the acquisition aligns with its vision to become the front door of web3, the decentralized and user-centric internet powered by blockchain technology.

As part of the integration, Yuga Labs will bring Moonbirds, a collection of 10,000 unique and programmatically generated NFTs that represent the first digital life forms on the moon, into Otherside, its web3 social platform where content creators, communities, and brands can interact and collaborate in the new digital economy.

“As a company committed to championing art, culture, and community on the blockchain, we’re excited to have PROOF join the Yuga ecosystem.” said Daniel Alegre, CEO of Yuga Labs. “Moonbirds is a collection with great potential and many unifying brand elements with Otherside. We look forward to PROOF Collective becoming an important part of our ongoing art and community engagement efforts.”

Kevin Rose, CEO & Founder of PROOF, will undergo a brief handover period before becoming an advisor to the company. In addition to the PROOF team that will move over to positions at Yuga, Josh Ong, Jesse Bryan, and Amanda Gadbow will oversee the transition of the Moonbirds collection and other key elements into the Yuga ecosystem.

“We’re very excited to bring Moonbirds into Otherside. It’s the perfect home and future for our collectors,” said Kevin Rose, CEO & Founder of PROOF. “With the PROOF Collective on board, it shows Yuga’s commitment to digital fine art, and our combined resources will allow us to innovate faster and reach more people. It’s going to be an exciting journey.”

The acquisition of PROOF is the latest in a series of strategic moves by Yuga Labs, which has been expanding its web3 presence and influence since launching the Bored Ape Yacht Club in April 2021. The Bored Ape Yacht Club, which consists of 10,000 unique and randomly generated NFTs that grant their owners access to exclusive benefits and experiences, has become one of the most successful and influential NFT projects in the industry, with a total sales volume of over $1 billion and a loyal and passionate community of collectors and fans.
