XRPL Labs demonstrates offline XRP transaction tool based on QR-codes

According to a presentation presented by XRPL Labs at Apex Developer Summit in Tallin, the team created a viable system prototype that allows users to initiate XRP transfers offline.

XRPL Labs: XRP Ledger transactions can now be initiated offline

The developers of XRP Ledger Labs, a software studio dealing with XRPL-based digital payment solutions, demonstrated the concept of their offline tool for QR code-based XRP transactions.

Specifically, the Proof of Payments (xPoP) protocol of XRP Ledger can be used by many devices that are not connected to the Internet 24/7. For example, it is compatible with vending machines and public transport.

An xPoP-integrated device issues a QR code on screen or paper, while owners of an XRPL-based asset can repay it in an instant decentralized way. XRPL Labs representatives are certain that this innovation can put an appropriate spin on the flywheel of XRPL retail adoption.

“As XRPL Labs aims to solve the “chicken/egg problem,” we started with 100% focus on end-users & the ecosystem. We feel that it’s time to start focussing on retail as well. xPoP is one of the useful developments for future retail adoption, and so: for the entire ecosystem”, the team stated.

Furthermore, XRPL Labs added that the intellectual property of xPoP belongs to the XRP Ledger Foundation, a non-profit organization that coordinates community-driven initiatives from the XRP community. Therefore, the source code of the new tool will be published once its public beta version is ready for open testing.

As AZCoin News reported, XRP Ledger proposes allowing XRP holders to open a type of XRP Ledger account (“Lite Accounts”) with only one XRP. At the same time, the “Account Reserve” for regular accounts is 5 XRP (plus 15 redeemable XRP).

After XRP holders pay one XRP to their “Sponsored” account, their customers can use it. Otherwise, the sponsor can exchange one XRP. “Lite Accounts” can be upgraded to full-fledged ones by paying extra XRP fees.
