Vietnam will focus on Blockchain technology to actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution

On December 16, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed the decision  “research, development, and application to actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam.

In September, the State Bank of Vietnam, the country’s central bank, does not consider cryptocurrencies legal tender and lawful means of payment in Vietnam, according to Nghiem Thanh Son, deputy director-general of SBV’s Payment Department.

Back in 2017, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the Ministry of Justice to finalize a proposal on managing cryptocurrencies. Later, the Ministry of Finance was tasked with drafting a legal framework on virtual assets and currencies.

Although Vietnam has not recognized Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Vietnam is the country with the largest amount of traffic to crypto exchanges in Southeast Asia.
