Ubisoft becomes block producer on EOS-backed Ultra

Ultra, the game development giant behind Assassin’s Creed, announced that Ubisoft had become the first-ever EOS-based corporate block producer.

Ubisoft goes deep into the Blockchain

As you know, Ubisoft is the French gaming giant known for series like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. According to the announced on Thursday, Ubisoft will join as block producer on testnet blockchain UOS (Ultra sidechain). As such, the company will maintain the network and approve transactions on it during the trial time.

This is a win-win relationship, mutually beneficial. By the computing power of Ubisoft will be used to process transactions online. Such as in-game items transfer and payments relating to them. Ubisoft revealed, they will soon start contributing to testnet. If successful, it will become part of the launch team.

Ubisoft Blockchain Initiative director Nicolas Pouard states:

“Our team at the Strategic Innovation Lab strongly believes all blockchain use cases bring value to players are important to support. Also, Ultra offers a solution does just that. During this first trial tine of collaboration, we hope to help them in bringing it to a larger scale and experiment with the possibilities this opens up for the industry.”

The reason Ultra chose Ubisoft is that its computing power will significantly support in the platform’s growth. And just as Nicolas Pouard stated, this partnership will benefit his company as this is their first venture into the blockchain. Moreover, this partnership also contributes to increasing blockchain adoption rates and makes possible mainstream adoption. Also, Ubisoft could help UOS to expand the experiment. On the other hand, Ubisoft previously partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex as well as EOS Rio and EOS NY.

Not the first time

This is not the first foray of Ubisoft in the world of blockchain gaming. On the other hand, Ubisoft previously partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex as well as EOS Rio and EOS NY.

Last year, Ubisoft joined the Blockchain Game Alliance. This is a coalition of gaming and blockchain companies working to bring blockchain technology to the gaming industry. Each entity in the alliance can share knowledge and collaborate on research to help layout the foundation for blockchain gaming. Also, the Blockchain Game Alliance may give Ultra some indication as to how the two organizations came to form the new partnership.

This news comes a little over a month after Ultra announced that Bitfinex, EOS Rio, and EOS New York had become the first groups to sign on as block producers.
