The Discord server of the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection was compromised by hackers

The Discord channel of the popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club has been hacked by hackers, information officially confirmed by the BAYC development team.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) officially confirmed the project’s Discord channel had been hacked

One of the most famous and largest NFT collections in the world today, Bored Ape Yacht Club, has been attacked by an unknown hacker on the project’s Discord channel. Hackers gained access to the Discord of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), and Mutant Ape Kennel Club (MAKC), all three NFT collections owned by Yuga Labs.

The BAYC team immediately posted a warning to users on Twitter that any NFT trading actions should not be performed on Discord. According to PeckShield, the hacker successfully uploaded a phishing link to the discord channel Mutant Ape Kennel Club, disguised as a “disguised” NFT mint, and used it to steal MAYC artwork number 8662 from a user.

However, the stolen work belongs to Taiwanese pop superstar Jay Chou, which he confirmed through an Instagram post. Furthermore, he also lost another NFT, BAYC number 3738, in another attack, and this NFT was given to him by the famous Taiwanese singer Jeffrey Hwang, aka Machi Big Brother. In addition, two other NFTs of the Doodles collection were also attacked due to the Doodles Discord server being compromised.

Discord seems to be a good bait for hackers to take full advantage and scam NFT collectors. A few weeks ago, a new collection of NFT Rare Bears announced that its members had fallen victim to a similar incident and lost more than $790,000 in assets. Moreover, the Discord channel of NFT projects on Solana and Animoca Brands is no exception, as it has been continuously hacked in the past few months.

Up to this point, Bored Ape Yacht Club is the next name of the week to encounter severe problems after the event that Axie Infinity’s Ronin bridge was hacked for $ 622 million. The special thing is that the whole project is related to the field of NFT.

Considering the loss of property value, BAYC is probably not affected too badly compared to Axie Infinity. However, through this, prestige was more or less reduced. It is not known if projects like ApeCoin are involved or not…

Update: The stolen Mutant Ape Yacht Club #8662 apparently belonged to the Taiwanese pop superstar Jay Chou, which seems confirmed by himself via a post on Instagram. Chou lost NFTs in the phishing attack at a total value of $550,000, including the aforementioned MAYC, a Bored Ape Yacht Club ape that was gifted to him by famous Taiwanese singer Jeffrey Hwang, aka Machi Big Brother.

Chou also lost two NFTs of the Doodles collection, which seems to confirm that the Doodles Discord server has been compromised as well.
