Telegram to launch ad platform and reward channel owners with Toncoin

Telegram, the popular messaging app with over 500 million users, announced that it will launch its own ad platform in March, allowing channel owners to monetize their content and receive payments in Toncoin, the native cryptocurrency of the TON blockchain.

According to a blog post by Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, the Telegram Ad Platform will be available in nearly a hundred new countries, where channel owners will get 50% of the revenue generated by displaying ads in their channels. The ads will be designed with privacy in mind, and will not collect any personal data from the users.

Durov also explained that the ad payments and withdrawals will be exclusively done on the TON blockchain, a scalable and decentralized network that powers Telegram’s services. Channel owners will be able to use their Toncoins to either cash out or reinvest in their channels, creating a virtuous circle of content creation and promotion.

The announcement comes as Toncoin’s value surged by 25%, reaching a market cap of nearly $10 billion, amid a general upswing in the crypto market. Bitcoin (BTC) hit the $60K milestone for the first time since November 2021, and Ethereum (ETH) also charted a multi-year high of over $3,300.
