Solana’s Saga Phone Faces Poor Sales, Moves Only 2,200 Units
The highly anticipated release of the Solana Saga smartphone back in May 2023 fell short of expectations as it only managed to sell a mere 2,200 units. This unexpected sales figure has prompted Anatoly Yakovenko, the founder of Solana Labs, to address the urgent need for a sales boost, aiming to sell between 25,000 to 50,000 units for the Saga phone to gain traction in the market.
In an exclusive interview with Unchained, Anatoly Yakovenko expressed concern over the lackluster response to the Saga phone since its launch. He revealed that despite being on the market for over six months, the company has only managed to sell 2,200 units. This revelation has led the company to consider various marketing strategies, from in-store discounts to model upgrades and application enhancements, in an effort to improve sales and build a robust user base.
💪 After FTX’s collapse, many wondered whether Solana would survive. One year later, it’s one of the most successful cryptos of 2023.

Before its launch, the Saga phone was highly touted and often showcased at numerous conferences by Solana’s founders. Solana highlighted the unique selling point of Saga, the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS), a customizable toolkit that integrates cryptocurrency functionalities into the phone.
Priced at $1,000, the smartphone boasts top-notch specifications, including a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, a 6.67-inch OLED display, 12GB RAM, and 512GB of storage. The phone runs on the default Android operating system.
Despite originating from a blockchain project and being Solana’s first foray into smartphone manufacturing, Saga has faced criticism for design vulnerabilities. Recently, on November 15, the auditing firm CertiK released a video demonstrating an attack method exploiting a vulnerability in the Saga phone’s Boot Loader, revealing a potential backdoor that could compromise the security of over 2,000 sold devices. This loophole poses a significant risk, potentially enabling hackers to breach users’ devices and access their assets.
