Ripple’s director of product pulling back the curtain on XRP payments project called Payburner
In an interview with Thinking Crypto, Ripple’s director of product Craig Dewitt revealed a new XRP payment project, Payburner.
Payburner is designed to make it extremely simple to send and receive e-commerce payments
This is a platform, a side project, designed to make sending and receiving e-commerce payments simpler.
Dewitt said:
“Payburner got started because we had this idea for xSongs, and then we realized that there was never actually a great ecosystem for individuals to do peer-to-peer payments using XRP. It was interesting to see in the initial version of xSongs, the vast majority of payments were coming from digital asset exchanges.”

XSongs was released in December. This is a new digital marketplace that allows artists to sell their songs online for XRP. There’s no fee to upload or post songs, and artists receive 100% of the revenue from their sales through peer-to-peer XRP payments.
The reason Dewitt created this project seems to come from seeing people were buying songs for 20 XRP, which was the weirdest thing… That’s the minimum withdrawal for a lot of these exchanges. And that’s when they realized they didn’t have a wallet infrastructure that made it easy for xSong customers to leverage XRP truly.
DeWitt added:
“Payburner will launch as a Chrome extension and will also be available as a WordPress plugin, making it available to approximately 455,000,00 websites.”
He concluded:
“So the way that we’re approaching this is one of a two-sided market. One where you have sellers and one that you have buyers. We’re going to go active cultivate the ecosystem on both sides to make a better experience for both parties.”
By building a plugin for WordPress, Ripple made everything very easy for people who want to receive XRP and payment for goods to have that plugin. And as there is an integrated ecosystem of people who can easily buy goods using the Payburner plugin they have in their browsers, Ripple will increasingly expand to many new projects in the future.
