ReSea Project stating they cleared 305 metric tonnes of plastic waste from the ocean and verified the results using VeChain

It seems that at present after Tesla temporarily stopped paying in Bitcoin for environmental reasons, quite a few other crypto projects are also starting to pay more attention to this. Recently, through a partnership with Vechain, ReSea Project said it has cleaned up 305 tons of plastic waste from the ocean. And thanks to the Vechain Blockchain, the community can easily verify this.

VeChain (VET) verifies ReSea Project cleaning results of 305 tons of plastic in the ocean

ReSea Project is a Danish company with a community-based solution to remove plastic from oceans and rivers in Indonesia. They shared the status of their cleanup on Linkedin yesterday, claiming to have cleared 305 tons of plastic waste from the ocean and verified the results using VeChain.

They said:

“Our collection data from January-April 2021 is now verified by DNV and we are happy to share with you that we’ve removed 305.239,62 kg (672,938.17 lbs) of plastic waste from oceans and rivers.”

It is known that VeChain’s ToolChain platform originates from the process of cleaning, tracking plastic waste from the mining point, how to arrange it, …

The platform, based on blockchain technology, completely secures data in real-time and records all steps in the scope of certification. This allows DNV to digitally monitor and inspect all plastic collections at all times, notifying all stakeholders of any irregularities.

The ReSea Project is only the second project in the world to be certified to the DNV Chain of Custody Standard for Hydrosphere Plastics. Standard requirements ensure the traceability and integrity of recycled plastics from any body of water. DNV is an expert assurance and risk management company that issues the first traceability standards for verifying the authenticity and provenance of ocean and river plastic recovers.

This certification helps boost cleanup efforts in Indonesia, the world’s second-largest contributor to ocean plastic pollution. As an independent third party, DNV also ensures fair compensation for cleanup groups, as people from local communities in Indonesia are recruited to remove plastic waste from rivers and oceans.

With its community-driven solution, ReSea Project is improving living conditions and raising awareness in areas with poor waste management. The high level of transparency in the collection process allows businesses to trust that their participation has an environmental and social impact.

According to the Center for Biological Diversity, the world is currently witnessing a global tragedy for our oceans and marine life. Plastic accumulations found in floating litter already cover about 40% of the world’s ocean surface and at current rates, plastic is predicted to outnumber all fish in the sea by 2050. Besides reducing plastic consumption and improving waste management, large-scale cleaning solutions are crucial in mitigating the plastic pollution crisis. And it looks like blockchain can help with that.
