The much-awaited WebX conference, known as Asia’s largest global conference, finally kicked off on July 25th, bringing together major players, startups, companies, investors, government officials, media, and visitors from Japan and around the world. Organized by CoinPost Co., Ltd., the event promises to be a crucial platform for discussions and collaborations within the emerging technology landscape.

The opening address at WebX was delivered by Koichi Hagiuda, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Policy Research Council, who expressed unwavering support for Web3 startups. As apprehensions regarding adopting the emerging Web3 technology continue to grow worldwide, Hagiuda emphasized Japan’s superiority in this field. He pointed out that Japan has already established a rigorous regulatory environment, prioritizing the protection of individuals, and highlighted the collaboration between the government, political circles, and the private sector to promote Web3.

Crucially, Hagiuda stressed the global nature of Web3 and underscored the significance of building strong networks overseas. To support this, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry initiated the “Start Next Innovator” project, which has already dispatched around 1,000 entrepreneurs and students to Silicon Valley over the past five years. Additionally, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s new initiative, “J-StarX,” scheduled to commence this fiscal year, aims to expand dispatch areas to include the United States, France, Singapore, and other countries. By leveraging these startup support measures, Hagiuda expressed optimism for the emergence of excellent startups.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also graced the event with a video message, touching upon the Kishida administration’s vision of “new capitalism,” which prioritizes resolving social issues as the catalyst for growth. Recognizing the transformative potential of Web3 in reshaping the conventional Internet framework and bringing about social change, the government is actively working to enhance the environment for fostering Web3.
