Microsoft’s Bing Chatbot Now Multimodal and More Versatile, Similar to ChatGPT

Microsoft has recently announced the general availability of the Bing chatbot, which was introduced as an invitation system in Bing and Edge browsers back in February. The AI dialogue model has now become more versatile and has evolved with new features.

The newly updated Bing chatbot, which is currently in open preview, has now become multimodal. This means that it can generate responses that combine text, images, and video, which makes the chat experience much more interactive and engaging. Additionally, it has charting and graphing capabilities similar to ChatGPT, making it even more robust and versatile.

One of the most exciting features coming soon to the Bing chatbot is the ability to save past chat histories and conversations. This feature will allow users to review their chat history and continue discussing previous topics, making it easier to pick up where they left off. Microsoft has stated that they are looking at making users’ chats more personalized by bringing context to new conversations from previous chats.

In the future, the Bing chatbot will also support third-party plug-ins that will facilitate actions such as hotel reservations, shopping, and task management. This will make the chat experience even more useful and practical for users, as they will be able to complete tasks and make reservations without having to leave the chat.

Microsoft has invested heavily in AI technology, particularly with OpenAI, and they have now integrated the GPT-4 language model into the Bing search engine. The Bing chatbot utilizes this technology to provide users with up-to-date and reliable information in a natural conversational format.

Since its introduction in February, the Bing chatbot has seen a rapid increase in use, with over 500 million chats in just 90 days. Bing has over 100 million daily active users, and the number of Bing mobile app installs has quadrupled. As a result, Bing’s share has increased, and the Microsoft Edge browser’s share has also grown for eight consecutive quarters.

The Bing chatbot’s general availability is exciting news for Microsoft and their users, as it will make the chat experience more engaging and personalized, while also providing practical functionality. With its multimodal capabilities and third-party plug-in support, the Bing chatbot is poised to become a powerful tool for users in their everyday lives.
