Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed NFTs are coming to Instagram

The comments of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at South by Southwest confirmed earlier reports that Instagram was preparing to make such a move to confirm NFTs are coming to Instagram.

Mark Zuckerberg: NFTs are coming soon to Instagram

While speaking at the SXSW festival in Texas on Tuesday, Zuckerberg also said that hopefully, in the coming months, Instagram members will be able to mint their non-fungible tokens (NFT) within the app.

“We’re working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term,” Zuckerberg said at a panel at Austin’s South by Southwest Festival on Tuesday, according to a tweet from Engadget Senior Editor Karissa Bell. Zuckerberg added, however, that “I’m not ready to kind of announce exactly what that’s going to be today.”

He said the company wasn’t ready to give specifics yet but hoped that users could use NFT in the social media platform.

Facebook rebranded itself as Meta late last year as part of its pivot to the metaverse – an immersive virtual world that will increasingly integrate into people’s lives.

Zuckerberg’s speech confirms a January report in which two insiders told the Financial Times that NFT is coming to Instagram and Facebook.
