Linus Tech Tips hacked in order to promote Bitcoin giveaway scam with Elon Musk

The most popular technology-related YouTube channel, Linus Tech Tips, has been hacked to promote a cryptocurrency giveaway scam featuring Tesla CEO Elon Musk. According to cybersecurity firm SOS Intelligence, the channel has over 15 million members and was streaming two live “Bitcoin” fraud movies.

Scammers typically use YouTube accounts to showcase fake celebrities, such as Elon Musk, live broadcasting and pushing viewers to pay cryptocurrency in exchange for a chance to win a higher prize. This type of scam is becoming increasingly widespread in the bitcoin sector, with scammers taking advantage of high-profile personalities’ appeals to trick viewers into transferring money.

Linus Tech Tips, founded in 2008 by Canadian vlogger Linus Sebastian, offers technology reviews, courses, and news.

Throughout the years, the channel has gained a dedicated following and become a go-to source for many tech enthusiasts interested in cutting-edge technology items.

Linus Tech Tips responded quickly to the hack, claiming that they are “on top of it” with the Google team and hope to “harden their security around YouTube accounts and prevent this sort of thing from happening to anyone in the future.”

The event emphasizes the significance of online security, especially in the crypto world, where hackers are constantly looking for new methods to exploit flaws.
