Lido Finance, one of the major players in the Ethereum ecosystem, recently announced that it had upgraded its system by implementing the Shapella upgrade. However, a small glitch occurred, causing a validator in the Lido Finance system to be “slashed.” This event, which occurred on April 14th, 2023, has sparked concerns among stakeholders and observers of the ecosystem.
The Lido Finance team quickly identified the cause of the problem and took action to rectify the situation. In a tweet, the team announced that there were 11 ongoing slashing incidents involving the RockLogic GmbH node operator. The team assured stakeholders that they were investigating the issue and that the situation was under control.
According to the team, the total projected impact of the slashing is approximately 20 ETH, which is about 3% of the average daily protocol rewards, or 0.0004% of the Total Value Locked (TVL). The Lido DAO, in anticipation of such events, has a fund of around 6,000 stETH to mitigate the impact on stakers.
The team further stated that if the slashing was due to human error, all damages would be covered by RockLogic GmbH. As of now, the total penalties amount to 11.19 ETH and are projected to increase to a total of 12.09 ETH as slashed validators leak to exit. Missed rewards, on the other hand, amount to 0.31 ETH and are projected to increase to 1.75 ETH, for a total projected impact of 13.84 ETH.
