Korea sent people to Serbia to track down Do Kwon

Bloomberg reported on February 7 that South Korea sent a delegation to Serbia to hunt down Do Kwon, the CEO of Terraform Labs, the entity behind two cryptocurrencies that collapsed in 2022 Terra (LUNA) and stablecoin UST.

Officials in the delegation include prosecutors in the city of Seoul, where the investigation into Do Kwon is being carried out, and representatives from the South Korean Ministry of Justice.

South Korea, in September 2022, issued an arrest warrant for Do Kwon to investigate the LUNA-UST crash. However, this character did not comply with the summons, fled from Singapore to Dubai, and is said to have chosen Serbia as a refuge. Seoul authorities later canceled Do Kwon’s passport and asked the International Criminal Police Organization to issue an arrest warrant for him.

The reason Do Kwon chose Serbia as a hiding place maybe because it does not have an extradition treaty with South Korea. Still, South Korea has asked the authorities of this Eastern European country to coordinate the arrest.

However, in the early days, Do Kwon still regularly appeared on Twitter to make statements challenging the authorities, saying that he did not run away but did not want to present to the police because he was afraid for his safety. whole self. The Terraform Labs CEO also denied allegations of embezzlement of project funds or self-interest from the LUNA-UST crash.

Former leaders and employees of Terraform Labs were approached by Korean authorities and asked to cooperate in the investigation. The Seoul Prosecutors’ Office and the South Korean Ministry of Justice declined to comment or provide information on Do Kwon’s current location.

In a related new development, a Terraform Labs senior manager last week revealed that Do Kwon is preparing to return to the cryptocurrency market as he is about to announce a new project team built on Terra 2.0, blockchain is “resurrected” from the old Terra.
