HIVE Digital Technologies Expands Focus to Drive AI Advancements with Nvidia GPU Cards

HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd., a global leader in data center technology and green energy sourcing, has announced its official name change to HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. The rebranding signifies the company’s strategic shift towards leveraging the revenue opportunities presented by Nvidia Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) cards in Cloud compute technology. The move also highlights HIVE’s mission to drive advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, including the development of ChatGPT, to support the evolving Web3 ecosystem.

Since its establishment in 2017, HIVE has been at the forefront of the cryptocurrency mining sector. However, with the adoption of its new name, the company aims to tap into the vast potential of GPU Cloud compute technology. This technology serves as a critical tool in the fields of AI, machine learning, and advanced data analysis, allowing HIVE to expand its revenue streams with its impressive fleet of 38,000 Nvidia GPUs.

While HIVE will continue to maintain a strong presence in Bitcoin mining, the company intends to utilize its robust GPU fleet for large-scale computational tasks. Additionally, HIVE plans to enter the market of GPU server cluster rentals through various marketplaces and develop its own service called HIVE Cloud. This cloud-based offering will provide users with access to virtual instances of single GPUs, bare-metal servers equipped with up to 10 GPUs, and even clusters of multiple servers, offering a wide range of computing power. HIVE Cloud aims to provide small and medium-sized businesses with a cost-effective and efficient alternative to major cloud service providers, resulting in substantial savings.

Aydin Kilic, President & CEO of HIVE, stated, “Our name change and strategic pivot indicates our progressive trajectory as a company. High-performance computing, driven by GPU processing power, is experiencing exponential growth thanks to the remarkable new generation of AI tools for consumers and enterprises. Training these tools, from ChatGPT to Midjourney, requires high-end GPU compute. As businesses adapt to the new AI world, we believe they will seek companies like HIVE to develop their own AI tools and gain a competitive edge in this era of digital information.”

Kilic also emphasized the importance of Nvidia data-center grade GPUs in meeting the increasing demands of GPU computing. HIVE’s fleet includes Nvidia GPUs with unique Tensor Core and Ray Tracing (RT) Core architecture, features that surpass the computing requirements for mining Ethereum. To complement its Nvidia GPUs, HIVE has partnered with SuperMicro to provide CPU computing power and storage. The initial order of SuperMicro servers is expected to arrive within the next month, with additional deliveries to be announced throughout the year.

Frank Holmes, Executive Chairman of HIVE, highlighted the exponential growth of ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs), stating, “The training and fine-tuning of these LLMs are powered by GPUs. We believe the demand for GPU computing with our Nvidia GPU cards has the potential for a high-margin business with annual revenues surpassing $100,000,000.”

HIVE’s decision to focus on GPUs and AI technology aligns with the increasing significance of GPUs in advancing AI capabilities. GPUs play a vital role in the development of AI systems, particularly with the emergence of Nvidia Tensor Cores, enabling mixed-precision computing that accelerates throughput while maintaining accuracy. As the AI sector continues to expand, HIVE anticipates a corresponding rise in the demand for efficient and powerful GPUs.
