Hackers attacked a number of popular crypto YouTuber accounts

Several popular crypto Youtuber accounts such as ‘BitBoy Crypto,’ ‘Altcoin Buzz,’ ‘Box Mining,’ ‘Floyd Mayweather,’ ‘Ivan on Tech,’ and ‘The Moon’ have been hacked at some time at some point in the afternoon of January 23. These accounts posted unauthorized videos with text instructing viewers to deposit funds into the hackers’ wallets.

Crypto Youtuber accounts fall victim to hacking and scamming attempt

The Binance Smart Chain wallet address listed on the scam videos only has a total of 9 transactions in BNB at the time of writing, totaling around $850. Reportedly, YouTubers performed an internal scan but found no viruses or bugs that could have allowed hackers to access their accounts. And looks like Youtube is responsible for this.

A Reddit post by user “9Oh8m8” suggested that it appeared hackers were able to gain access to the accounts using a SIM-swapping scam, which would have allowed them to bypass two-factor authentication (2FA).

Several other crypto content creators affected by the hack have yet to receive any additional information at the time of this writing from Youtube.
