Firefox users have slammed the Mozilla Foundation for asking for Dogecoin (DOGE) donations

The Mozilla Foundation, a nonprofit that oversees Mozilla Corporation, has faced backlash after asking for donations in Dogecoin (DOGE).

Mozilla’s Dogecoin (DOGE) pitch results in backlash

Its followers did not hold back their words, criticizing the platform for destroying its reputation by promoting Dogecoin and attempting to legitimize the cryptocurrency.

Some longtime fans of Firefox, Mozilla Corp’s popular web browser, say they will have no choice but to be reluctant to switch to another browser because cryptocurrency is a disruptor agreement for them. Others also threatened to cancel their monthly contributions to the California-based nonprofit.

The creator of Datasette, Simon Willison, suggested that Mozilla might be surprised by its overwhelmingly negative reaction to the crypto donations received. Firefox users have also protested against the buzzword “Web3”, joking that the internet must fall back to “Web1”.

Mozilla currently accepts Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and several other cryptocurrencies in partnership with leading crypto payment processors BitPay. Its contributions are instantly converted to dollars to avoid the extreme volatility associated with cryptocurrencies.

With more companies getting into crypto, the backlash against them continues to grow. Discord users forced the company to halt its Ethereum integration plans after threatening to unsubscribe from their mass Nitro subscriptions.

However, when it comes to Mozilla, cryptocurrencies are nothing new. Back in 2014, this nonprofit partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase to receive Bitcoin donations.

The Mozilla Foundation invests the donations it receives from the community in education, lobbying, and research. According to StatCounter, Firefox holds a 7.87% share of the desktop browser market, making it the fourth most popular browser (after Chrome, Safari, and Edge).
