Elon Musk: Tesla will start accepting bitcoin for payments again

Elon Musk has announced that when there is “confirmation of reasonable (~50%) clean energy usage by miners with positive future trend,” Tesla will start accepting bitcoin for payments again.

“This is inaccurate. Tesla only sold ~10% of holdings to confirm BTC could be liquidated easily without moving market. When there’s confirmation of reasonable (~50%) clean energy usage by miners with positive future trend, Tesla will resume allowing Bitcoin transactions.” he responded to a Cointelegraph tweet about recent accusations from Sygnia CEO Magda Wierzycka, who called on the SEC to investigate him for allegedly manipulating Bitcoin’s price.

Tesla began accepting bitcoin for car payments in March. Elon Musk confirmed at the time that any Bitcoin received will not be converted into fiat currencies. At the same month, Musk confirmed that his electric car company added $1.5 billion worth of BTC to its balance sheet.

But, on May 12, Musk said that his company would no longer accept Bitcoin payments due to the network’s “increasingly rapid use of fossil fuels…”

After the news a few hours, the BTC price rose by $ 3,000, jump from $35,000 to $39,700.
