The development of Ethereum is about to be documented and brought to the cinema. Accordingly, a team dedicated to making the documentary is planning to release the first film about Ethereum, dubbed “Ethereum: The Infinite Garden”, including the appearance of network co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

Production company Optimist is behind the documentary, with Carrie Weprin serving as executive producer and Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple co-directing. Weprin and Ingrasci both knew about the cryptocurrency ecosystem before joining the project. But the interviews they did for the new movie really turned them into die-hard fans of Ethereum.

Currently, they are looking for ETH donations to fund the film through the Mirror platform. The donation deadline is July 16 with the goal of raising 750 ETH (about $1.5 million). As of the time of writing, there have been 207 backers with an amount of up to 212.69 ETH, equivalent to $420,866.

For filmmakers, crypto crowdfunding is the most authentic way to raise money for a movie. Because this move allows members of the community to participate and shape the outcome of the project, which is still in the early stages of development.

“I think it’s so exciting that a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) could be our executive producer,” Ingrasci said. “That would be the first time that’s ever happened for a film. For sure the executive producer will be someone from the community. This is why we wanted to involve the community as early as possible.”

Additionally, NFT tokens designed by crypto artist ppplleasr will be sold on Mirror. Each token will represent a level of participation in the project.

“I’ve always thought Buterin deserved to have his story out there. The whole Ethereum team is just so pure, authentic, kind, and wonderful,” Morgan Beller, co-creator of Libra and now an investor at NFX connected the Optimist team to Buterin said, adding:

“If you’re first learning about Ethereum and you’re not a crypto person, you don’t necessarily see that side. But I always thought that if the world were able to somehow see and understand where this is all coming from, the heart and thoughts behind it, people would both understand it and be more supportive.”

Weprin said the team hopes to get the film into a major film festival in 2023 and will likely pursue distribution on major streaming platforms.
