Crypto exchange BitMart has been hacked for $100 million

According to security researchers PeckShield, cryptocurrency exchange BitMart has been hacked for $100 million.

Crypto exchange BitMart reportedly hacked for $100 million

At 7:30 p.m. UTC, PeckShield first noticed there were too many outbound transfers. It discovered that a bunch of tokens was sent out of BitMart’s hot wallet, starting at 16:30 PM EST. These tokens include a large number of meme tokens like Shiba Inu (SHIB), plus half a million dollars in stablecoin USDC.

Other commentators have pointed out that coins have also been deleted on the Binance Smart Chain, which may have increased the amount already spent. “This is only related to Ethereum and we have not counted in the assets on Binance Chain yet,” PeckShield tweeted.

The funds were sent to the Ethereum mixing service Tornado Cash, which will make tracking them more difficult. BitMart has yet to confirm the hack.
