According to a Tuesday blog post from the crypto exchange and services provider Coinbase, the company teamed up with Google and Apple Pay to expand the use of its debit card.

Coinbase teamed up with Google and Apple Pay, debit card product is now usable via Apple Pay and Google Pay

The firm also said that:

“Starting this week, we’ll invite select customers off the waitlist for its card product.”

After initially being available to the UK and EU-based customers, Coinbase launched its debit card product in the US last October. Users in the US and UK were able to access the card before.

About 30 countries are already using this crypto card. This new move brings Coinbase into line with the standards expected for retail payments in countries where Coinbase cards are available.

Payment solutions like Google and Apple Pay are convenient and simple. This kind of simple click-and-approve system is taking over as the go-to payment method rather than point-of-sale swipes. The Visa debit card comes with opt-in crypto rewards, including 1% back in bitcoin and 4% back in XLM.

Coinbase said in the post:

“Using Coinbase Card with Apple Pay and Google Pay makes it even easier to spend and grow your crypto. This is just the beginning — we’ll continue to build more ways for you to maximize crypto rewards and easily use crypto in your everyday life.”

This announcement follows a crypto payment surge. Recently, PayPal announced it would allow its users to make transactions in crypto. As mentioned, Gemini also ensured it is involved in this growing sector as well. This move by Coinbase is the latest from a major crypto player into the retail payments space and is unlikely to be the last.
