[Bitfinex] How to work from home – Tips from the pros at Bitfinex
You may already know that Bitfinex is a globally distributed company that allows people around the world to deploy their talents. We have been smart working since 2014 with success, and now that is becoming a necessity for many companies and individuals, we asked the work from home (WFH) pros for tips to help you get into the swing of things.
- Schedule your own routine
One of the great things about working remotely is there’s no social stigma of when you arrive at the office. Not a morning person? No problem, you can stay in bed a little longer and work a little later. Don’t like breaks? Skip them and finish earlier. Skipping the commute means you can take that lie in, or start earlier too!
- But make sure you have a routine
The pros recommend keeping your morning routine, commute excluded. Get up, shower, get dressed, coffee. Usually start with exercise? Youtube has an array of free videos with minimal equipment needed. It’s important though to continue a normal workday routine so you don’t find work-life getting off-balance.
- Make a dedicated space
Set aside some desk or table space, even a special chair that will be your work space. Sitting there will help your brain mimic the feel of travelling to work, getting you in the zone to focus on work.
- Use other things to mentally transition from home to work
In addition to your set space, one of the pro’s recommended having a specific work mug. For example, if you’d usually have your first coffee of the morning at home use any old mug. If you have a coffee when you’re about to start a big focused piece of work? Put it in your special work mug and keep it handy in your new remote work space as a visual reminder to focus.
- Find a new way to socialise
They recommend calling friends digitally during breaks or setting lunch dates to catch up. Group chats over WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram – are all great ways to get some social contact. What about with colleagues? Scheduling regular meetings is important as it’s easier to lose synchronisation not being in an office together, it’s ok if you’re going over the same things a few times as well it keeps everyone reminded of the priorities.
