Barry Moore Alabama Congressman disclose Dogecoin buys and some notable cryptocurrencies but the investment not successful
In the periodic transaction report, U.S. congressman Barry Moore, R-Alabama reveals some of his recent cryptocurrency buys, which include meme coin.
Alabama Congressman Barry Moore has purchased a range of cryptocurrencies in recent months
Based on the shared photo, it can be seen that Moore has purchased Dogecoin (DOGE), Ether (ETH), and Cardano (ADA) in recent months.
Specifically, on May 5, Moore bought ETH, followed by three purchases of Cardano on May 10, 11, and 13 before buying DOGE on June 13. Dogecoin peaked on May 8 at $0.74, and it’s currently trading down a staggering 68% from its all-time high.
The disclosures do not specify how much Moore invested in each coin but give a range of $1,000 to $15,000 per purchase. That means he bought $5,000 to $75,000 in total.
It can also be speculated that he purchased between $1,001 and $15,000 worth of DOGE on June 13. Apart from the parody cryptocurrency, Moore also bought up to $30,000 worth of Cardano and up to $15,000 worth of Ethereum in May.
Aside from the misspelling of the words Ethereum – and indeed “cryto” – the presence of Cardano on the balance sheet indicates that he is buying on a crypto exchange, as ADA is not available on more mainstream trading platforms with crypto options, like Robinhood or PayPal.
Moore, however, is not the first “Dogecoin congressman.” His colleague from Tennessee, Mark Green, made a significantly timelier bet on the canine-themed cryptocurrency in early April.
However, Moore’s transaction did not go in his favor. At the time of his purchase, ADA was priced between $1.65 – $1.90 but has since dropped to $1.43. ETH has risen from around $3,000 on the day Moore bought it to a high of around $4,330 on May 13. However, it has also dropped and is currently at $2,387.
Although Moore’s DOGE investment was a huge hit after its catastrophic collapse – when Elon Musk appeared on SNL – the meme token still slipped from his purchase price of $0.31 down to $0.23.
While the July 2 filing seems to be late for all but the purchase of Dogecoin, there is no telling if he has sold those tokens in recent weeks. Moore is also new to Congress this year and received an extension on the overall report of holdings that members of Congress must produce, meaning any pre-existing holdings are not yet a matter of public record.
