Apple CEO Tim Cook reveals he has an investment in cryptocurrency

Responding to an interview at the DealBook conference on November 9, when asked if he personally owns Bitcoin or Ethereum because both of these coins hit record highs today, Cook stated:

“I do. I think it’s reasonable to own it as part of a diversified portfolio,” Cook told Andrew Ross Sorkin in a recorded interview. “I’m not giving anyone investment advice, by the way.”

Cook further revealed that he has been interested in cryptocurrencies for a while and has researched the topic. However, the Apple CEO said his opinion was made from a personal point of view and dismissed suggestions that Apple might take cryptocurrency in exchange for products as tender.

Cook also rejected the possibility of Apple buying cryptocurrency with corporate funds as an investment.

“I wouldn’t go invest in crypto, not because I wouldn’t invest my own money, but because I don’t think people buy Apple stock to get crypto exposure,” Cook said.

Additionally, while Apple is interested in the blockchain technology behind cryptocurrencies, the company is not something we have immediate plans to do. Currently, Apple does not provide any services or products related to cryptocurrencies other than supporting crypto applications.
