Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of the Alibaba Group, has announced the launch of a new blockchain lab in Shibuya, Tokyo, in partnership with game and VR content developer, Skeleton Crew Studio. The lab aims to be an incubation hub for the Web3 era and will provide game developers with access to the latest blockchain technology.
The lab will offer regular seminars, workshops, and networking events, providing developers with opportunities to learn about the latest Web3 technology trends and knowledge. Developers will also have access to the ecosystem of companies affiliated with Alibaba Cloud, and will be able to conduct demonstration experiments in test environments on each ecosystem.
For the time being, access to the lab will be open to hackathon participants and select companies working on collaborative projects with Alibaba Cloud. Two major Web3 events are already scheduled to take place this year: the Web3 specialized game hackathon “asobiHack_Tokyo” and the HAPathon 2023 hackathon, which will be held in four cities, including Tokyo.
The winners of the hackathons will be given prizes and opportunities for joint marketing with Alibaba Cloud. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud plans to launch its blockchain node service in Japan later this year, which will be piloted for select users on an invitation-only basis.
The node hosting service has the ability to monitor nodes and automatically switch over in case of failure, and the nodes are protected by cloud firewalls to ensure the security of the system. In December 2022, Alibaba Cloud announced the operation of public blockchain nodes for the Avalanche (AVAX) blockchain, marking its first foray into public blockchain nodes and infrastructure provision for developers.
The launch of this blockchain lab in Tokyo reflects Alibaba Cloud’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of Web3 technologies and providing developers with the tools and resources they need to succeed in this emerging field. The partnership with Skeleton Crew Studio is also significant, as it highlights the important role that game developers will play in shaping the future of Web3. Overall, the lab is expected to be a valuable resource for developers looking to build innovative applications on the blockchain, and will help to advance the development of Web3 technologies in Japan and beyond.
